Schedule

Rephrased uses the USC Perforce depot as the daily source of truth. Milestone dates follow the course calendar; this page tracks the engineering order.

Current foundation

  • one-Verb + one-Noun transaction in either order
  • world-rune candidate and activation flow
  • exact-pattern drawing tablet
  • command-orb delivery
  • URuneableObjectComponent noun/status/effect pipeline
  • Door/Light Set 1 through ARunePuzzleActor
  • split default and drawing input contexts
  • Rephrased.Rune.PROT001 automation

Engineering allocation

Role Responsibility
Engineering Producer integration, milestone gates, build/review health
Systems Engineer rune transaction, command delivery, effects, save/load
Blueprint Engineer / Tech Designer word data, patterns, Blueprint effects, puzzle presentations
Puzzle Engineer new rune-responsive actors and matrix-row implementation
Generalist Engineer character, camera, UI, input, integration
Audio Engineer activation and puzzle-state audio
Tech Art rune glow, command orb, status and rejection feedback

First Playable

  • Repair/Open + Door/Light complete in the target rooms.
  • World and drawn forms teach the same words consistently.
  • Keyboard and supported gamepad controls pass PIE.
  • Candidate, pending, exact-match, rejection, and command feedback are readable.
  • Making-runes authoring workflow is usable by the team.
  • Build and review gates stay green.

Fall Midterm

  • Expand the approved rune matrix beyond Set 1.
  • Add reusable status-transition classes and noun overrides before bespoke effects.
  • Add two rune-responsive puzzle actors using the runeable-object seam.
  • Harden gamepad menu navigation and input-mode transitions.
  • Define the versioned puzzle/checkpoint save schema.

State of the Game

  • Implement the majority of approved rune rows.
  • Ship checkpoint save/load for runeable object status and puzzle presentation state.
  • Add content validation for missing effect classes, illegal statuses, duplicate drawing patterns, and invalid references.
  • Complete camera and command-feedback polish for the vertical slice.

Alpha

  • Lock rune-system interfaces used by designers.
  • Finish planned rune and puzzle content.
  • Complete menus, input rebinding, and accessibility settings.
  • Run dense command-range and repeated-transition performance tests.

Beta

  • Content lock.
  • Controller, save compatibility, collision, and command-delivery hardening.
  • Final audio/VFX tuning and performance pass.

Expo

  • Bug fixes and release verification only.
